Education Abroad

In the course of the last 50 years, the Department of English at the University of Mainz has established a multitude of exchange programmes that permit students of English to study (and for graduates, to teach) abroad.

The Socrates/Erasmus Student Exchange Programme, sponsored by the European Union, allows students registered with the Department of English to study at one of 20 partner universities and recieve full academic credit for courses taken there. The programme forsees the waiver of all tuition fees and includes a stipend to cover any additional costs that might be incurred while overseas.

The American Studies section maintains a framework of direct exchange programs which are founded on bilateral agreements with universities in the United States and Canada that enable students registered with the Department of English to study at these universities for one year. In most instances, academic expenses are covered completely. Teaching and research assistantships are also available.

The University of Mainz also maintains a special partnership with the Université de Bourgogne, which enables students to graduate with a Diplôme de Maîtrise (from Dijon) and a Magister Artrium (from Mainz). More information is available from the Dijonbüro.

Students (of any faculty) who wish to continue their education at a university which requires a cerificate of fluency in English may apply to staff members listed here.
